Who Am I?
My name is Marieke and I live in Hoofddorp. I am sporty, creative and get inspired by art and culture. I recharge in nature and I am a big fan of the beautiful island of Terschelling.
Every person has their own life story. A story that, often unconsciously, affects the choices you make. Understanding how you arrive at certain choices, gives you direction, self-confidence and decisiveness. Seeing someone make choices and take action from this awareness leaves a deep impression on me. This is what makes working as a coach so special to me.
In my career of more than 30 years, I have achieved my ambition to become a CHRO/Board Member. This required a career switch. From tax consultant at PwC to HR benefits specialist at ING. In the financial sector I have since held various HR positions, from specialist to generalist and finally CHRO.
This journey provided many personal challenges. An HR study, adjustment to a totally different culture from consultancy to a large corporate, the switch from specialist to generalist and from a standalone position to team manager. And subsequently the growth to senior leadership/Board Member.
I had to reinvent myself several times. What made me successful in one position was totally ineffective in another. What seemed like the perfect next step in my career, after three months, turned out to be a real drain on my job satisfaction and happiness in life. As a director, I was faced with a business take over. Professionally, an exciting and educational journey. However, my CHRO position changed so much that at the age of 57, I took a sabbatical to think about my next career move.
